Responsible Pest Control Guide for Pet Owners
When you have pest problems, one of the first concerns you’ll have will be for the health and safety of your family -- including any fur-family members. We love our pets just as much as you love yours, and we go the extra mile to ensure they stay safe whenever we treat for pest problems. Here’s how we do it.
First, there are many variables to consider when choosing a pest control plan that is safe for your beloved pets, but it all starts with an approach to pest control called Integrated Pest Management, or IPM. The IPM philosophy with respect to pets and pest management can be summed up as “think first, act second.” This strategy prioritizes a holistic approach to pest control in which the products used are the last step in the process, not the first and only, as with traditional methods of pest control.
The most important element of IPM is to be proactive in creating an environment inhospitable to pests. Prevention is the best cure for a pest problem, especially when considering your pets. It starts with eliminating clutter, both indoors and out, and making sure all trash is kept in lidded bins away from the residence.
Remember, too, that one of the things pests are looking for is food, so keep any dry foods completely sealed off and clean up after meals and snacks immediately. That goes just as well for your four-legged family members, whose food looks and smells just as scrumptious to pests as yours does.
Next, IPM involves closing off potential pest entryways by sealing any cracks or holes around the home and installing door sweeps. If pests never get in to begin with, you’ll not have a pest problem to even speak of.
The IPM approach means considering all of the variables pertaining to the affected property, including who lives there, whether there are small children and if any residents present with particular allergies, the number and size of pets, the structure’s proximity to water, prior pest history, along with the size of the structure and the materials used when it was built. These factors all play a role in effective and responsible pest management, so it’s important to hire someone you trust to get the job done right.
At JP Pest Services, safety for all household members is our number-one priority. That’s why we’ve spent the last century tailoring pest treatment plans to be safe for everyone -- except the targeted pests.
There are very few pests that may require the house to be vacated for a few short hours, but upon return there will be no reason to worry about your pets sniffing around the treatment area. We are completely transparent regarding the treatments that we use, and all of this information can be found right here on our website.
