5 Ways We're Celebrating National Pest Management Month
April is a big month for New England - it’s finally spring, those famous “April showers” are getting us all set up for lovely “May flowers,” and the weather is finally starting to warm up after a long winter. But according to the National Pest Management Association, April is also National Pest Management Month - and that calls for a little celebration.
Here at JP Pest Services, we’re focused on pest management all year round, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take some time to recognize our industry, our history, and what’s ahead for pest management. Here’s a look at five ways we’re celebrating National Pest Management Month:
1. We're Looking Back at How We Got to Where We Are Today
When our founder J. Justin Pestana, a first-generation Portuguese immigrant, first began J.P. Chemical Company (which would become JP Pest Services) back in the 1920s, his ambition was immediately apparent. Finding success providing pest control services around the area, he bought a farm in Amherst, NH in 1923, which became the company’s headquarters as well as family home.
Three generations and one small move to Milford, NH later, and we’re still doing what we do best: serving our communities. For over ninety years, JP Pest has led the charge on pest management right here in New England. From Maine to Massachusetts and from Brattleboro to Boston, we’ve long been an enemy to pests and a friend to homeowners around the northeast. In all that time, we’ve had one major goal: to establish JP Pest Services as the benchmark for service professionalism.
2. We're Focusing On Year-Round Pest Management For All Of Our Customers
We live firmly by the belief that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” - especially when it comes to pest control. That’s why we’re focusing now more than ever on year-round protection for our clients, helping them keep their homes and businesses free from unwanted invaders all year long.
Unlike other, more reactive methods of responding to pest infestations, our Seasonal Pest Protection program adjusts for each changing season, setting homeowners up with the right protection to stop pests before they ever get a foothold. By acting proactively, homeowners can save money, reduce stress, and improve pest management results.
3. We're Saluting Women in Pest Management
According to a 2014 study published by the US Department of Labor, a mere 3.7% of those professionally engaged in pest management are women. We think that’s more than a little low, and we’re compelled to close that gap.
That’s why we’re specifically encouraging more women to embark on lucrative and fulfilling careers in pest management right here at JP Pest Services. So far, we’re proud to say we’re bucking the national average with our amazing staff, a whopping 25% of whom are women. We still haven’t reached our goal, but we’re proud to be leading the charge - and the future is looking bright for all women who join our ranks.
4. We're Looking for Team Members to Join Our Ranks
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts pest management jobs will grow by 20% through 2022, a pace that exceeds many other occupations. Being right smack dab in the center of that growth means we’re actively working to recruit excellent, motivated team members to join us here at JP Pest Services - and there may be no better time to get on board than National Pest Management Month.
Far from being the same-old, same-old desk jobs held by your neighbors, jobs in pest control are a little bit unlike any job you may have experienced before - and, at the end of the day, nothing feels better than knowing your customers appreciate a job well done.
5. We're Getting Ready to Enjoy A Warm, Pest-Free Spring and Summer
April means spring, and spring means warm weather is firmly on its way - prime time for pests to start finding their way into homes and businesses across New England. That’s why we’re focusing this season on preventing the worst of those warm weather pests for our customers, helping everyone on our client list dive into the spring season with peace of mind for those sunny days ahead.
Whether it’s stopping termites in their tracks, getting ahead of ticks for your family and your pets, or keeping ants at bay through prime picnicking season, JP Pest is ready and able to make sure this spring goes by pest-free - because we waited long enough through winter to delay those spring days just because of pest problems.
Wishing You A Happy National Pest Management Month!
April may be National Pest Management Month, but the truth is that pest problems don’t simply come and go with the seasons. Whether it’s the warm days of spring or the frigid days of December, our customers rely on our expertise to keep their homes, businesses, and properties pest-free year round. That’s why we’re taking this month to remember how we got to where we are today, and how we plan to continue to grow in the years ahead.
Thank you to all of our customers, team members, and friends for your support - and happy National Pest Management Month!
